It’s not all just horsing around

Readers (and editors) have a bottomless appetite for “news you can use” — stories that parse complex subject matter in a way that’s engaging, relevant to their interests or concerns, and easy to understand. As one who’s researched and written too many horse-health stories to count, I can attest that it’s not a big leap to do the same thing for human physical- and mental-health-related stories. This is the opener of a story on arthritis that I wrote forĀ Military Officer, the award-winning member magazine of the Military Officers Association of America. I also penned stories for MOAA on the subjects of depression and post-military career changes. As the spouse of a former military member, it was a pleasure and a privilege to bring both life experience and an understanding of military life to these assignments.
